The Psychology of a Bright Smile
A bright, beautiful smile appeals to people on a deep psychological level. From our earliest days, we are socialized to recognize a smile as an indication of happiness, confidence, and friendliness. Good teeth are also an indication of health, youth, and vitality—even better characteristics to convey during an interview.
White teeth also indicate, on a sociological level, that an individual has enough residual money to spend on his or her appearance, rather than basic necessities. Even though there are many teeth whitening options to choose from, many people still consider teeth whitening to be a luxury. Therefore, having white teeth will subliminally convey to a potential employer that you have much more revenue than you truly do—and therefore aren’t “desperate” for the position.
No matter which way you look at it, white teeth demonstrate that you care about your appearance, your health, and your career. No matter which industry you’re aspiring to enter, whitening your teeth can only give you an advantage. And if you are aspiring to enter a client-facing position, like sales or customer service, whitening your teeth will be even more beneficial for you.
