Signs You Need Emergency Dental Treatment

Toothaches: Severe toothaches are some of the most aggravating maladies to experience. Sometimes you experience a dull, somewhat tolerable pain. Other times, the pain is so intense, you can’t focus on anything else. You’re having a dental emergency if the pain suddenly increases in intensity. This means you may have a possible tooth problem like a cavity, crack, or abscess. Contact our emergency dental clinic to make an appointment and receive your dental work as soon as possible.

Dental Pain: If touch, temperature, or chewing causes you severe dental pain, it’s very likely that your toothache is getting worse, and it’s time to see an emergency dentist. Next time you’re in pain, and you’re asking yourself, ”What to do if I have a toothache?”, pick up the phone and call immediately.

Loose Teeth: As an adult, your teeth should not feel loose. Contact our dental office immediately if your teeth are loose or wiggle easily, even if they’re not painful. Taking care of loose teeth promptly will help prevent tooth injury or localized infection in the future and insure dental health. Additionally, if the loose tooth is paired with red and bleeding gums, it could indicate advanced gum disease, something you want examined by a dentist.

Swollen Gums: Swelling of your gums, jaw, or skin around your mouth could be caused by many factors including a swollen lymph node to a gum or tooth infection. Since any of these symptoms could be attributed to a variety of culprits, it’s a good idea to seek emergency treatment if the swelling persists.

An Accident Occurred: If you recently experienced an accident and had a tooth knocked out or a tooth is loose, you need to see an emergency dentist right away.

Sometimes it’s easy to determine the source of the pain. Other times, the problem won’t be as obvious as a broken tooth. For example, you may have a never-ending toothache, or you may find yourself dealing with severe tooth pain from an abscessed tooth. If you think you need emergency dental care and are a current patient of ours, contact Friendly Dentistry first.

Emergency Dentist FAQ

Visiting the dentist’s office can make people nervous. If you have dental anxiety and are at the dentist’s office due to an emergency, your stress and anxiety will only be heightened. Here are some of the most frequently asked questions about emergency dental care, so you know what to expect from your emergency dental visit.

If you chipped a tooth, give us a call as soon as possible.  If you don’t seek help, the crack or chip can get bigger and cause excessive pain and risk of infection. When you visit us at Friendly Dentistry for a dental emergency regarding a chipped tooth, an emergency dentist will check the extent of the damage and see if the injury is causing pain when you breathe through your mouth or when you drink cold liquid. Then, place a clean, moist gauze on your tooth until we’re able to see you. If you’re able to, save the chipped-off piece of your tooth and keep it moist with milk or water. Depending on the extent of the damage, a root canal may be necessary. The tooth may also be able to be restored with dental bonding, a porcelain veneer, or a dental crown. We won’t know until we’re able to analyze the issue ourselves.
